Food orders arrive from strangers hundreds or even thousands of kilometres away. Medical students operate volunteer first-aid desks. Young people sing, perform poetry, share handheld fans and pass packets of water through crowds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, mobile internet restrictions have made messages difficult to send, UPI payments difficult to complete and app-based services harder to use around central Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The internet may have gone silent in parts of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protest did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_Are_Students_Protesting_at_Jantar_Mantar\"><\/span>Why Are Students Protesting at Jantar Mantar?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ongoing agitation has been led by the Cockroach Janta Party, commonly called CJP, a youth movement that Reuters reported began as online satire before developing into a larger street movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its supporters have raised concerns over repeated examination-paper leaks, accountability within the education system and the future facing millions of students competing for limited educational and employment opportunities. Protesters have also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The demonstrations intensified after tens of thousands of people attempted to march towards Parliament on July 20. Police used batons and tear gas during clashes, while authorities also reported violence against security personnel and damage to property. Delhi Police subsequently registered multiple cases and said RAF personnel had allegedly been attacked by members of a crowd near the protest area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That distinction matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A serious account of the protest cannot present every participant as violent. It also cannot pretend that no violence occurred. Claims made by demonstrators, police, political parties and viral social-media accounts must each be examined independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Moment_the_Protest_Became_Bigger_Than_the_Protesters\"><\/span>The Moment the Protest Became Bigger Than the Protesters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most remarkable features of the Jantar Mantar gathering has not been a slogan or a political speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has been the arrival of delivery riders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supporters unable to reach Delhi have reportedly used food-delivery applications to send water, fruit, snacks and meals to people at the protest site. Volunteers receive the orders near barricades, organise the supplies and distribute them through the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reuters reported that donations were arriving from across India and from supporters abroad. Volunteer doctors and medical students were also providing basic treatment for dizziness, nausea and minor injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a distinctly twenty-first-century form of solidarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may not be physically present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may not know anyone at the protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may not even live in the same country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet a few taps on a phone can place a meal in the hands of someone sitting on a Delhi road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protest site has therefore become more than a physical location. It is functioning like a network\u2014part street movement, part online community and part volunteer-run public square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Then_the_Internet_Was_Restricted\"><\/span>Then the Internet Was Restricted<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mobile internet services were repeatedly suspended around Jantar Mantar and parts of central Delhi. According to a government order reported by <em>The Indian Express<\/em>, the restrictions were imposed in the interest of public safety, to avert a public emergency and to prevent incitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disruption, however, extended beyond protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local businesses reported difficulty accepting UPI payments. Commuters faced problems using app-based transportation, online navigation and messaging services. People working in nearby areas were also affected, including those who had no connection to the demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This created one of the defining contradictions of the protest:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A movement born and amplified online suddenly had to survive offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People returned with handwritten signs. Volunteers formed human supply chains. Messages travelled through word of mouth. Poetry replaced posts. Songs replaced notifications. Volunteers handed out water, food and fans. At approximately 2:30 in the morning, a daily-wage labourer reportedly sat on the road and recited poetry to a small circle that had formed around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the part of a protest that rarely fits inside a breaking-news notification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The headline shows the clash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The photograph shows the barricade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ten-second video shows the loudest moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But a movement is also built during the quiet hours\u2014when somebody clears garbage, treats an injured stranger, distributes food or stays awake at an entrance to guide people through the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those moments do not always trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet they often explain why a protest continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Roses_Spider-Man_Masks_and_the_New_Visual_Language_of_Protest\"><\/span>Roses, Spider-Man Masks and the New Visual Language of Protest<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Young protesters have combined familiar symbols of Indian dissent with the visual culture of the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reuters reported participants carrying portraits of Bhagat Singh and copies of the Constitution, while others distributed roses, wore Spider-Man masks or used humorous self-descriptions on placards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To older generations, these details might appear unserious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gen Z communicates through irony, memes, costumes and visual references. Humour is not always an escape from anger; sometimes it is how anger becomes shareable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Spider-Man mask in a protest crowd can cross language barriers faster than a three-page political statement. A flower offered across a barricade creates a photograph people understand instantly. According to live updates published by <em>The Indian Express<\/em>, Wangchuk referred to extended negotiations and concerns about possible violence while announcing his decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protest site, however, did not immediately empty. It is also taking place through competing videos, cropped clips, anonymous messages and rapidly spreading claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One viral claim suggested that the passports of protesters involved in violence could be cancelled. Delhi Police publicly described that information as misleading and said no such decision had been announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Separate viral videos have also triggered debate about facial-recognition technology and whether protest participants are being matched with Aadhaar records. Reports have noted that there has been no official confirmation that facial-recognition systems at the site are connected to the Aadhaar database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why responsible coverage must resist the temptation to turn every viral post into a fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A video may be real but lack context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A claim may sound believable but remain unverified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An official denial may answer one allegation while leaving other concerns unresolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a protest surrounded by internet restrictions, political messaging and public fear, verification becomes as important as visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Jantar_Mantar_Is_Really_Showing_India\"><\/span>What Jantar Mantar Is Really Showing India<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not only a story about one minister, one examination or one organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a warning about accumulated frustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India\u2019s students spend years preparing for examinations that can determine the direction of their lives. Their families invest savings, time and emotional energy into that process.
